Arizona Opportunities Industrialization Center

The mission of the Arizona Opportunities Industrialization Center through Sullivan’s Place is to assist Veterans and their families in attaining self-sufficiency through the provision of dignified housing and supportive services. To accommodate the diverse Veteran population in the Phoenix area, two houses are designed for four single males, one house for four single females, and one house for a married, four-person family. Occupants of Sullivan’s Place will also benefit from access to mentoring programs, skills training, and job placement services to help them better attain sustainable self-sufficiency.

The Maricopa Community Colleges East Valley Veterans Education Center (EVVEC) provides educational outreach and college advisement services to Veterans and their family members at no cost. They offer a “one-stop-shop” where Veterans can get practical information about community resources and educational services available to successfully pursue a college education. Additional services are provided by in-house educational and community partners. The EVVEC is hosted by Rio Salado College, A Maricopa Community College.

FirstLight Home Care serves to support Veterans and their families when they need it most. They offer friendly, professional companion and non-medical personal care that covers everything from household duties like cooking, cleaning and laundry to individual needs such as bathing and hygiene, continence and toileting care, mobility assistance, and assistance with eating. FirstLight can also help out with running errands, organize bills, take care of paperwork, or just sit down and enjoy some pleasant conversation. Whatever is needed.

Separate and distinct from the Counseling ministry at the Casa is a special retreat held exclusively for Veterans of war or those recovering from traumatic experiences in the United States military. This extended-weekend experience helps attendees begin to synthesize their story and release the pain of what has been done to them, what they’ve been asked to do to others, and perhaps what they’ve failed to do for themselves or someone else.

Operation Freedom Bird

OFB, a non-profit, provides a therapeutic program for AZ combat veterans healing from PTS and unresolved grief/loss. Yearly since 1988 approx 50 veterans are selected for a four-day Healing Journey to Washington, D.C. Participants selected by counselors throughout AZ visit war memorials, attend events and conduct evening therapy. OFB Board and Staff volunteer with overhead of 3.5%. 96.5% of donation dollars go directly to the Healing Journey.
